About Run for the Seals:
The Marine Mammal Center’s “Run for the Seals” has become a well-known, fun, community event in Marin for over 24 years. Some 600-1,000 runners and walkers will lace up their running shoes March 8 and enjoy the natural beauty of the Marin Headlands and Rodeo Beach, located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in Sausalito, CA. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. with a start-time of 9 a.m. sharp. Please note: This year’s race will be SELF-TIMED, so if you would like to know how fast you completed the run, please bring a stopwatch or you may look at our digital clock as you cross the finish line. The money we save on professional timing expenses will help us feed multiple patients for 2-4 months. Our patients thank you very much in advance! Afterwards, prizes will be presented for winners in a variety of age categories and finishing times.
Proceeds from “Run for the Seals” help support The Marine Mammal Center's ongoing work to rescue and treat ill and injured marine mammals (primarily seals and sea lions.) Since 1975, staff and volunteers have integrated the daily work of rescue, rehabilitation and medical treatment, with that of scientific research and marine science education.
The Course:
The 4-mile course starts at Marin County's Rodeo Beach and follows a paved route through the scenic Marin Headlands. Named as one of the Bay Area's best short runs - it is perfect for serious runners as well as walkers and families. KFOG’s Peter Finch and CBS 5 will be on hand to emcee the race and spin the tunes throughout the morning. For those who wish to cheer from the sidelines, there will be plenty of activities from the Center’s Education Department, as well as shopping available at our Marine Mammal Visitor Center to keep you occupied.
